Greer talks Samford commitment

Perry Central (New Augusta, Miss.) quarterback Bruce Greer had one of the most successful junior years of any signal caller in the state in 2009. He helped his team to a 12-0 regular season and a run in the class 3A play-offs.
The talented 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, was plagued with injury and a very young supporting cast as a senior but his hard work and dedication to the game has paid off.

The four year starter committed to Samford University a few weeks ago during an official visit to the Birmingham campus.
Greer is an outstanding student-athlete and a schools academic profile was as important as their athletic reputation when he began to make his final decision.
Greer holds offers from Southeastern Louisiana and Jones Junior College as well as Samford.
So what set Samford apart for the talented prospect.
"I would say it was a combination of two things," he said. "First I was really attracted to Samford's high standards and academic reputation."
In addition to Samford's academic reputation he enjoyed his time spent on campus during his official visit.
"I really enjoyed the campus, meeting all the players and spending time with the coaches," he said. "Just the overall environment of Samford and the campus."
At Perry Central, Greer stared on both sides of the ball for the Bulldogs, as a quarterback he was known to hurt teams as much with his legs as with his arm, running an impressive 4.55 in the forty yard dash.
Where will Samford utilize Greer on the college level?
"At first they were mainly talking about free safety," Greer said. "Now that we have a new offensive coordinator, they're talking about me coming as an athlete and trying out quarterback and receiver in addition to defensive back."
Greer is being recruited by Samford defensive assistant Bill Clay.
