Greer holds two offers, looking for more

Perry Central (New Augusta, Miss.) quarterback/safety prospect Bruce Greer helped his team to an undefeated regular season, a region championship and a school best 12-1 record. On the season he passed for 1,794 yards and 21 touchdowns while rushing for 600 yards and ten scores.
The Bulldogs lost 17 seniors from last year's championship team so the road won't be as easy for Greer this year but he's ready for the challenge.

"The biggest thing is I have to be both types of leader this year," he said. "I have to be a vocal leader and a lead by example guy. Last year Jaleel (Dantzler) was our vocal leader and I just had to get the job done."
Greer's on field prowess and leadership abilities have not gone unnoticed. He already holds offers from Samford and Southeastern Louisiana while Alcorn, Army, Mississippi, Miss State, Northwestern State, South Alabama and Southern Miss are starting to take notice.
"Of those schools I think Army may be the closest to offering," Greer said.
With any of the service academies academics play a very important role, but Greer has that covered as well. Greer is an honor student at Perry Central holding a 3.5 GPA while taking a college preparatory curriculum. He has already scored a 22 on the ACT but plans to continue taking the test to improve his score.
Greer's father served in the US Army and a military career is something he has always considered.
"I've always thought about going into the Army and being an Airborne Ranger," Greer said.
When looking at potential colleges each student-athlete has a different priority set and Greer has taken time to think about what's important to him in selecting a program.
"First would be the coaches," he said. "I want to be comfortable with my coaches. "Secondly is playing time. I don't have to be a starter as a freshman or anything, but by my second year some playing time would be nice," he continued. "The education is important, that's the real reason you're supposed to be there. Proximity to home is important too," he said. "I want to be able to play somewhere my family can come to the games."
Perry Central opens their season on August 20, hosting rival Purvis (Miss.) High in New Augusta. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
