Future Stars shine at The Crossroads of the South Camp

On Saturday The Crossroads of the South Exposure Camp was held at Ridgeland High School. In attendance were a number of the top players in Mississippi's classes of 2012, 2013 and 2014, as well as a hand full of out of state prospects. Especially of note was the turnout of top level front court prospects which gave way to some interesting individual match-ups.
While it was too close to call as to who was the best player in camp it was a sure thing as to who were the top three players at the camp. The threesome of Fred Thomas, Tymond Howard and Gavin Ware were outstanding from start to finish and set themselves apart from the rest of the pack. Let's take a look at these three and a few of the other top prospects that were on hand.

Fred Thomas 2012 6-foot-4 WG Jackson (MS) Jim Hill H.S.; Athletic, long armed wing was very good all day, competed at a high level slashing to the hoop for athletic finishes and dunks , showed long range jumper hitting deep threes, at one point in an evening game hitting long threes on three straight trips down court.
Tymond Howard 2012 6-6 WF Pearl (MS) H.S.; Strong bodied wing was in attack mode all day, scoring on drives to the hoop and pull up jumpers. Won an early morning matchup with Devonta Pollard and had one of the highlight dunks of the day when he took off on the baseline and posterized a defender.
Gavin Ware 2012 6-foot-8 C Starkville (MS) H.S.; Was the best big in the gym on this day using his big frame to move opponents around and score on strong finishes , many of which were dunks. Was strong off of the defensive and offensive boards and showed good mobility.
Devonta Pollard 2012 6-7 WF/PF Kemper County (MS) H.S.; Coming off of an injury, Pollard started slowly but picked up steam as the day went on. Spent most of his time early around the block and couldn't find much room to operate, but moved out and faced up more later in the day where he was able to utilize his outstanding athleticism to score baskets. Had the block of the day when he came over from the help side to reject a Ware dunk attempt.
Jamal Hester 2012 6-foot-8 C Ridgeland (MS) H.S.; Played inspired ball on this day, moved up and down the floor well and was especially strong on the offensive boards, could have finish a few more shots but all in all a good days work. Really came to play in an evening match-up with Ware showing a pleasing competitive streak.
Auburn Country 2011 6-foot-8 PF/C West Jefferson (LA) H.S.; Strong bodied, athletic post, loves to bang, good rebounder, fairly mobile, offensively limited but can finish around the rim.
Tarron Gillmore 2012 6-foot-7 PF Jackson (MS) Callaway H.S.; Lanky athletic four man was very active all day, scored around the hoop mostly on dunks and put backs but showed an interesting off hand move which he scored on, rebounded well and competed defensively.
Dennis Miles 2013 6-foot-6 PF Newton County (MS) H.S.; Active, strong bodied four man show he could play with the big boys, scored off of face-up moves, put backs and strong finishes around the hoop, competed hard defensively and showed the ability to hit the face up jumper.
Treshawn Bolden 2013 6-foot-8 PF Jackson (MS) Callaway H.S.; Strong bodied four man showed the ability to score off of face-ups mixing up drives and mid-range jumpers.
Randall Lowe 2013 6-foot-7 PF Hattiesburg (MS) H.S.; Raw big has a strong frame and is not afraid to bang, showed he could be a solid rebounder and hit a few jumpers, all upside right now.
Joniah White 2014 6-foot-8 C Grenada (MS) H.S.; Skinny, long limbed freshman post was over matched against the other bigger post in the gym on this day but showed a willingness to compete. Hit a few short jumpers, blocked a few shots and got enough rebounds to show promise.
Joshua Carrol 2013 6-foot-1 PG/WG Jackson (MS) Murrah H.S.; Long limbed combo guard showed solid skills, scored the ball on drives to the rim, hit enough jumpers to keep the defense honest, showed good handles and toughness.
Maurice Dunlap 2014 6-foot-0 WG Grenada (MS) H.S.; Young slim wing showed toughness and the ability to score the ball, showed a solid jumper and a ice runner in the lane, a pest on defense he seems to be a solid ball-handler.
Torlorf Thomas 2013 6-foot-2 PG Montgomery (AL) Robert E. Lee H.S.; Broad shoulderd strong bodied floor general, good ball handler, solid jump shooter, good driver who often sets up others with his drives. Loads of upside.
Brice Rowe 2013 6-foot-2 PG Madison Central (MS) H.S.; Long armed rangy point guard, competed hard, good defender, scored mostly on drives to the hoop, showed solid floor game management skills as he did a great job of setting up Gavin Ware for many of the post-ups and finishes he got.
