State Tournament Action - Day 3

Day three of the MHSAA Basketball State Championship Tournament was the 4A boys and girls semi-finals, and the favorites stood tall setting up two great finals, one a match-up of undefeated teams.

Boys Action

Corinth 58 Bay High 55

Corinth used a big third quarter, outscoring Bay 21-10, to erase a five point Bay High halftime lead and take control of the game, before having to hold off a furious Bay High rally down the stretch. The game wasn't decided until Taylor Singleton's three point heave fell short at the buzzer propelling the Warriors into the 4A title game, their second consecutive year playing in a title game. Corinth was led by Sr. Deione Weeks with 16 points and 9 rebounds. 10th graders Raheem Sorrell and Jose Contreras provided support with 14 and 10 points respectively. Bay high was led by Singleton with a game high 20 points.

Amanda Elzy 63 Laurel 59

The Panthers from the Delta came out hot early and dominated the first half of play, leading by 13 at the half, but Laurel wouldn't go down that easily. The Golden Tornadoes rallied in the third closing their deficit to three late in the period. From that point on the game was a game of small runs as Elzy would push the lead back out to eight or nine points and Laurel would get back to into four or five points, with the Golden Tornados eventually having a shot to tie the game with a three pointer with around 20 seconds left. But the three pointer was off and Elzy iced the game at the line a few second later. Elzy was led by its trio of underclassmen Jr. Rahkeem Lehaman had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals; Jr. Janarious Middleton had 15 points and Soph. Maurice Dunlap had 14 points. Laurel was led by Deshon Bayless with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Ladarious McCarty with 13 points.
